Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco, has announced she will not run for a 2nd term in 2007, facing tough competition from the opposing GOP party. Blanco had been plaqued by her viewed poor handling of Hurricane Katrina. Her approval numbers averaged around the low 40's and 30's and her main challenger GOP Congressman Bobby Jindal currently holds a comfortable lead over Blanco. Look for the Democrats to rally support around State Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu who has yet to state whether he will run for governor in 20077, but has stated interest in the race. Fmr. Sen. John Breaux is expected not to run and Democrats and other political leaders feel he cant run since he resides in Maryland. With Blanco out I do see a little hope for Democrats to keep this seat, but I still see Jindal as the next governor of Louisiana.
