Decision 2008: Jim Gilmore exits presidential race

Former Virginia Governor and RNC Chairman Jim Gilmore announced yesterday that he has formally withdrawn from the race for the Republican nomination for president. Governor Gilmore gave little explaination to his withdrawing, but it is believed poor poll numbers and poor fundraising totals were the weighing factor on his exit. Gilmore averaged 1% in polls and raising only $200,000 nationwide. Gilmore is said to be weighing in on a possible run for the U.S. Senate in 2008 if incumbent Republican John Warner does not run for another term. He is also said to be considering a possible run for governor in 2009. Gilmore is recovering from emergency eye surgery, and many thought he would quit the race after the surgery.
